This is the most complete off-road experience we run, and the only tour that gives you both formats in one ride: three hours, €330 per vehicle, up to three guests. For the first two hours your own English-speaking guide drives you in a Can-Am Maverick from your hotel along the coast and up to the Srđ summit; for the last half hour, you take the wheel yourself on the plateau tracks. Pickup, helmets, bottled water and every photo stop are in the price — which is why we call it the best-value tour on our board.
It’s private, so the vehicle carries your group and nobody else, and it runs by appointment rather than on the half-hour grid — daily, March to November.
What do the three hours look like?
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0:00 | Pickup at your hotel or apartment, anywhere in the city |
| 0:15 | Gruž harbour — the working port, ferries and market quarter |
| 0:35 | Lapad Bay — the seafront promenade side of the city |
| 0:55 | Babin Kuk peninsula — pine coast and open Adriatic views |
| 1:20 | The Bridge viewpoint — the Franjo Tuđman Bridge over the Rijeka Dubrovačka inlet |
| 1:50 | The climb to Mount Srđ — panorama stops above the Old Town |
| 2:20 | Briefing at the top, about 10 minutes — controls, convoy rules, seat swap |
| 2:30 | You drive: 30 minutes of self-drive on the plateau behind your guide |
| 3:00 | Tour ends at the upper cable-car station — ride down to the Old Town in 5–10 minutes |
Timings breathe with traffic and photo stops, but the shape holds: coast first, summit second, wheel last.
Who drives — and when do you take the wheel?
Your guide drives the touring route, which is the point: the first two hours pass through ordinary city traffic and along coastal roads, and being chauffeured means everyone in the vehicle watches the scenery instead of the mirrors. At the top, the roles swap. After a ten-minute briefing you drive the same brand-new automatic Maverick on the gravel and karst tracks of the plateau, guide leading, viewpoints above the UNESCO-listed Old City included.
For the self-drive section the rules are the same as on our self-drive tour: the driver needs a valid licence, carried on the day, and must be 18 or over — part of the track network uses a public road. Anyone who’d rather stay a passenger simply stays a passenger; nothing about the tour requires you to drive. Details of what counts as a valid licence are in our licence guide.
The guides carry this format, and the reviews notice:
“Guides are very helpful and the excursion is fun!”

What’s included in the €330?
- Private Can-Am Maverick and English-speaking guide — your group only, up to 3 guests
- Hotel or apartment pickup anywhere in the city
- Helmets for everyone, bottled water on board
- All viewpoint and photo stops on the coast route and the summit
- The 30-minute self-drive finale with its briefing
- Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour, with a full refund
With three guests aboard, the maths lands at €110 a head — private-guide, hotel-pickup territory for group-tour money. Payment follows our standard model: the full €330 by card at booking, with a Stripe receipt by email and nothing to pay on the day. If plans change with more than 48 hours’ notice, every cent comes back; inside 48 hours we refund 70% of what you paid. If we cancel for dangerous weather — we watch meteo.hr, and light rain doesn’t stop a tour — you choose a free rebooking or a full refund.
When should you take it?
Two windows earn their keep. The 09:00 and 10:00 slots get the coast before the day’s heat and the harbour at its busiest and most photogenic; the 16:00 and 17:00 slots run the whole route into golden hour and put you on the summit as the light goes long — the reason our sunset page names this tour the premium evening option. Tell us at booking if you want a different hour and we’ll try to make it work.
The finish line is a feature, not an afterthought: the tour ends at the upper cable-car station next to the Panorama restaurant, so you can walk the summit — Fort Imperial is two minutes away — before floating back down over the rooftops. The city tourist board lists the cable car’s current hours.
How does it compare with our other tours?
Against the from-€40 self-drive format: that one is shorter, cheaper and you drive the whole time — but it starts and ends on the summit, so you see the plateau and nothing below it. Against the 2-hour private chauffeur tour (€290): same route, same privacy, €40 less — but no wheel time. The 3-hour format is the only one that stacks the coastal circuit, the summit panorama and the self-drive into a single booking, which is exactly why families split it: kids ride the whole way, the licensed adults share the driving at the top.
The full comparison, with the totals for every party size, lives on the price list.
What about groups larger than three?
Three guests is the vehicle’s limit with a guide aboard. Bigger parties run as multiple vehicles or staggered departures — send dates and headcount through the contact form and Paula will come back with a written quote, usually within the hour during opening hours (09:00–19:00).
If your dates are set, don’t sit on the golden-hour slots — there are only two of them per evening. Book the 3-hour tour online: pay by card today, then just be ready when we pick you up.
