Our self-drive buggy tour puts you behind the wheel of a brand-new, fully automatic Can-Am Maverick on the tracks of the Srđ plateau — the ridge that rises straight from the back wall of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. You drive; our guide leads the convoy from the front and parks it at the panoramic viewpoints above the UNESCO-listed Old City and the open Adriatic. It’s 30 minutes of driving, about 45 minutes door to door with the briefing, and it needs no off-road experience at all — if you can drive a car, the Maverick will flatter you.
Departures leave every 30 minutes from 09:00 to 18:30, daily from March to November, from the upper cable-car station on Mount Srđ. Pricing is per person and tiered: €50 for one adult with a two-seater to themselves, €40 per adult when two or more adults ride, €20 per child aged 5–11. You book and pay in full online by card — there’s nothing to pay at check-in.
How does the self-drive tour work?
You make your own way to the top of the ridge — the cable car from the Old Town takes 5–10 minutes, or it’s a short drive up the Srđ road by car or taxi — and check in at the buggy stand next to the Panorama restaurant. The briefing takes five to ten minutes: controls (throttle, brake, steering wheel — nothing to shift), convoy rules, helmets on, and a licence check for every driver.
Then the convoy rolls. The guide sets the pace at the front, keeps the group together on the gravel and karst tracks, and stops where the plateau drops away and the coast opens up below. Buggies come as two- and four-seaters, so couples get their own machine and a family of four shares one — swap drivers at any stop, as long as everyone who takes the wheel has a licence.
What does the route look like, minute by minute?
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0:00 | Check-in at the upper cable-car station — buggy allocation, helmets |
| 0:05 | Briefing and licence check; a slow first stretch to feel the controls |
| 0:12 | Convoy rolls out onto the plateau tracks behind the guide |
| 0:20 | Viewpoint stop — the Old Town and Lokrum almost directly below |
| 0:30 | Second leg across the open karst, the Adriatic on the horizon |
| 0:38 | Panorama stop facing the islands and open water |
| 0:45 | Back at the station — around 30 minutes of driving in all |
Timings flex a few minutes with each group, and the stops stretch when the light deserves it.
How much does it cost?
The price is per person, and it rewards company:
| Who | Price |
|---|---|
| 1 adult riding alone (own 2-seater) | €50 |
| 2 or more adults | €40 per adult |
| Children 5–11 (passengers only) | €20 each |
| Under 5 | not permitted |
| Ages 12 and up | count and pay as adults |
Two adults pay €80 for their buggy between them; two adults with two kids pay €120. Checkout charges the full amount to your card — Stripe emails a receipt, and there’s nothing left to pay when you arrive. The price list sets out every combination.
Group mechanics are simple: up to four people share a buggy, every buggy needs one licensed adult behind the wheel, and a single departure takes at most five buggies — twenty people. Bigger than that? Tell us through the contact form and we’ll stack departures back to back.
Do I need a licence to drive?
Yes — every driver needs a valid driving licence, carried on the day, and must be 18 or over. That’s not our caution talking: part of the route runs on a public road, so normal traffic rules apply and the requirement is the law’s, not ours. Passengers need nothing. Children aged 5–11 ride as passengers beside a driving adult; under-fives can’t join, and anyone 12 or older counts as an adult for seats and pricing alike. What counts as a valid licence for non-EU visitors is covered in our licence guide.
What are the viewpoints like?
The first stop is the one that ends up on phones and postcards: you’re parked on the lip of the plateau with the Old Town laid out below like a model — walls, bell towers, the harbour mouth — and Lokrum island floating just offshore. It’s a perspective you cannot get from street level, and the buggies reach it within ten minutes of rolling out. The second stop faces the other way entirely: bare limestone running to the Elaphiti islands and open water. Your guide knows the parking angles that keep other buggies out of your frame, and will happily shoot photos on your own phone. Guests notice:
“Best trip, totally worth the money and the guide took excellent pictures!”

Where exactly is the meeting point?
At the upper cable-car station on Mount Srđ, next to the Panorama restaurant — the easiest spot to find on the whole mountain. From the Old Town the cable car does the climbing for you in 5–10 minutes; by road it’s about a quarter of an hour from the centre up the Srđ road. There’s no hotel pickup on this tour because the start point is the destination — most guests pair the drive with the summit itself. Our Mount Srđ page covers the lie of the land, Fort Imperial is a short walk from the stand, and the city tourist board publishes current cable-car hours.
What’s included in the price?
- A brand-new automatic Can-Am Maverick — 2- or 4-seater, allocated to your party
- Helmets for everyone in the buggy
- Safety briefing and a supervised first stretch before the open track
- English-speaking guide leading the convoy for the whole route
- All viewpoint and photo stops
- Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure, with a full refund
Not included: the cable-car ticket if you ride up — the only cost outside the price you pay online. Light rain doesn’t stop the convoy; only genuinely dangerous weather does. We watch meteo.hr, and if we pull a departure you choose between a free rebooking and a full refund.
Self-drive or private tour — which should you book?
The self-drive is our flagship, but it isn’t the only format. Side by side:
| Self-drive tour | Private tours | |
|---|---|---|
| Who drives | you — a guide leads the convoy | your guide; the 3-hour adds 30 min at the wheel |
| Seats | 2- and 4-seaters, up to 20 guests per departure | up to 3 guests per vehicle |
| Hotel pickup | no — meet at the upper cable-car station | included, anywhere in the city |
| Duration | ~45 min door to door | 2 or 3 hours |
| Price | from €40 per adult (€50 solo, kids €20) | €290 (2 h) or €330 (3 h) per vehicle |
| Best for | licensed drivers who want the wheel | non-drivers, cruise days, couples, seeing the coast too |
If nobody in your party holds a licence — or you want Gruž, Lapad and the coastal circuit as well as the ridge — the €290 private option or the 3-hour tour with a self-drive finale will fit better.
If you want the ridge in its best light, the day’s last departures are the ones to fight for — the sunset slots go first in summer. Otherwise: pick a half-hour, book online, and your Stripe receipt lands in your inbox within minutes.
